This course is intended to provide dentists with the knowledge and training to diagnose and treat soft tissue defects. The participants will learn to perform esthetic periodontal plastic surgery procedures utilizing the latest minimally invasive surgical and suturing techniques. This will be done through lectures and hands-on learning, and live surgeries. We will discuss the fundamentals of soft tissue grafting, micro-surgical instrumentation, material selection and surgical techniques. There will also be an in-depth discussion of treatment planning, which includes case selection, treatment sequencing and selection of surgical techniques. The course will go over step-by-step soft tissue grafting procedures.
About Instructors
Dr. Sorin Boeriu
Dr. Boeriu is a certified periodontist in Canada and in the USA. The scope of his practice includes dental implantology, non-surgical and surgical treatment of periodontal diseases, periodontal tissue regeneration and periodontal soft tissue grafting. He has extensive experience in the surgical placement of dental implants, including immediate implants and computer-guided implant surgery, hard tissue grafting (including guided bone regeneration and maxillary sinus augmentation), complicated extractions, and soft tissue grafting. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Boeriu is actively involved in education through teaching and involvement in several professional associations. Dr. Boeriu runs regular Study Clubs for dentists practicing in the Kitchener-Waterloo-Guelph (Canada) and Toledo (USA) who are interested in expanding their knowledge base in periodontics and implant dentistry.
The core of Dr. Boeriu’s success is attributable to his extensive education and clinical training. The foundation was laid by the completion of his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1997 at CWRU School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland, USA. Dr. Boeriu subsequently completed the Misch International Implant Institute in Toronto, Canada in 2001. In 2016 he completed a Graduate Periodontal Program at CWRU.

Throughout his education, Dr. Boeriu received a number of awards and has continued to receive professional recognition throughout his career. Furthermore, Dr. Boeriu is actively involved in dental research, as well as lecturing at national and international dental meetings.
To stay up to date in his field, he remains a professional member of the American Academy of Periodontology, Canadian Dental Association, International Congress of Oral Implantologists, Canadian Congress of Oral Implantologists, and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Additionally, he has been inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and of Misch International Implant Institute and as a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantology.
Dr. Karin Basta
Dr. Basta has been committed to providing the best possible dental care to his patients. After earning his dental degree, he went on to practice general dentistry for 7 years before deciding to move to Cleveland where he got his 3 years of training in Periodontics and dental implants placement at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Basta utilizes the latest technology to deliver the most comfortable and reliable care. Dr. Basta has a special interest in digital dentistry, he uses CAD/CAM technology for treatment simulation and 3d printing of surgical guides, cutting down the treatment time and increasing his surgical precision.
When not in the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and son.
Dr. Basta is a member of the Ohio Dental Association, Toledo Dental Society, American Dental Association and American Academy of Periodontology.
